A Life-Changing Day for Dematawa Maha Vidyalaya

Dematawa Central College, located in the Kuliyapitiya Education Zone of Kurunegala District, was founded in 1945 and currently educates around 300 students in both primary and secondary sections. Despite most parents working as daily wage earners.

The school has long faced a serious problem: the lack of access to  water. Previous efforts to start a water project failed due to the absence of a water source on the school premises. This shortage has affected students’ access to drinking water and proper sanitation, creating daily challenges for both students and staff.

Under the Gammadda Door to Door initiative, and with guidance from a local correspondent, the school’s water issue was identified and a new solution was planned. A water storage and distribution system will be constructed with water sourced from a new tube well located 500 meters away. The project is funded by NEXT Sourcing Limited Sri Lanka, and the foundation stone laid on May 21, 2025.
