Summary

The residents of Rathmalwetiya are grappling with a devastating surge in Chronic Kidney Diseases, a silent epidemic stemming from their compromised water source.

Challenge

Situated in the Anuradhapura District, within the Galenbidunuwewa DS division, lies the serene village of Rathmalwetiya. With a population of 2850, the community predominantly comprises hardworking farmers and daily wage laborers. However, the absence of clean drinking water poses a daily hardship for its residents. Compelled by circumstance, they embark on arduous journeys spanning several kilometers to obtain water from neighboring villages or resort to purchasing it at exorbitant for their essential needs.

Solution

Installation of an RO Plant in the village of Rathmalwetiya. There is tube well in the heart of the Rathmalwetiya village and that is contaminated. This will be the source for the RO plant. Install a Water Storage and Distribution System which will provide the residents of Rathmalwetiya and neighboring villages with access to clean drinking water free of harmful pollutants. Further, this initiative will reduce incidence rate of water borne illnesses in the resident population. Moreover, we will introduce a preventive and periodic maintenance plan to ensure project longevity by forming a Gammadda Saviya.
