Summary

Due to the patients and doctors facing health and safety hazards and are unable to give or receive proper care, work needs to be done to renovate and provide medical equipment to the Faculty of Oral and Maxiofacial Surgery at the University of Peradeniya

Challenge

Due to unavailability of-adequate funds from the ministry of health and the University, the ward is not functioning optimally and patient wellbeing is significantly compromised. There are severe problems including a leaky roof and a non centralised oxygen delivery system. The washing machine at the ward is for domestic use and cannot handle the load of scrubs worn by doctors during surgery. The doctors currently work without scrubs. Other needs of the ward are painting of the ward and on call rooms of doctors/nurses, replace damaged doors and toilet-ware and also to purchase a new industrial washing machine and dryer. The hospital also requires 6 high needs beds with oxygen delivered through the newly installed centralised oxygen system.

Solution

Gammadda, in partnership with Next Manufacturing (Pvt) Ltd, concluded work on renovating and upgrading the ward on 3/5/2023- including providing medical equipment such a centralised oxygen delivery system and handed over the ward today to to the countless patients who will benefit from it. Other work included fixing the leaky roof, painting of the ward and on call rooms of doctors/nurses, replace damaged doors and toilet-ware, installing a centralized oxygen delivery system and also purchase a new industrial washing machine and dryer as well as attending to other refurbishment needs of the ward by upgrading the facilities.
