Summary

Help Gammadda efforts to improve access to computer labs in rural schools, and bridge the digital divide in Sri Lanka.

Challenge

Himbutugoda Primary School is located in Himbutugoda in Elpitiya in the Galle District. There are 52 students and 6 teachers at this school. Students are taught classes between Grade 1 and Grade 5. Up until the scholarship exam. The parents of these children mainly work as farmers and as daily wage casual labourers. They live in a state of abject poverty. Access to computer labs in schools in rural parts of Sri Lanka is often limited due to various challenges and Himbutugoda Primary School is no different. Many rural schools lack the necessary infrastructure, such as computers, electricity and internet connectivity, to support computer labs. As a result, students in rural areas may not have the same opportunities to develop digital literacy skills as their counterparts in urban areas, which can affect their future educational and career prospects. The school has requested Gammadda to provide the school with a computers to provide students with a technical education.

Solution

Refurbish an existing classroom and transform it into a computer with new computers, electrical wiring, UPS systems and an air-conditioner. This will help give the students a technical education, bridge the digital divide in Sri Lanka and to provide equal access to education for all children.
