A community supply of clean drinking water is needed in Hengamuwa to eliminate CKD and other water borne illnesses at a cost of Rs. 4 million.
The grama sevaka division of Hengamuwa consists of the villages of Hengamuwa and Gurugoda. It is located in the Kobeiganne DS in the Kurunegala District. Hengamuwa and Gurugoda are home to 300+ families. It’s an agrarian society that depends on a currently inadequate water supply. The area sources water that is pumped from two common wells that are pumped to a common distribution point. The groundwater in this area, however, is contaminated with calcium deposits, resulting in hard water. Consumption of hard water has been linked with kidney disease in studies. This is reflected in the number of kidney patients in the region. The residents desperately need a clean water supply for drinking and other purposes including agriculture. This can only be facilitated through the installation of an RO Plant.
Gammadda, after consultation with Government Engineers, has decided to construct a Reverse Osmosis Plant for the residents of Hingamuwa. The source water will be tested to determine RO plant parameters. The RO Plant will be installed by the Sri Lanka Navy. Upon completion of the RO Plant- a central water distribution point will be installed for the community to access freely. Gammadda will be monitoring and reporting on the progress of the RO Plant construction.
