Summary

Kumbukanda Primary School is located in the Wilgamuwa, Akkarakala village. It is home to about 100 students and boasts a 40 year history. Main income of the people is farming and sand mining. Unfortunately schools in the area are underdeveloped and do not have library facilities.

Challenge

Akkarakala area schools are underdeveloped. Many of these schools do not library facilities to help children expand their knowledge to supplement their education.

Solution

A permanent library building was built by Gammadda to house the ever expanding collection of the Kumbukanda library. This library is a fountain of knowledge for these children. This library not only serves Wilgamuwa but 10 other neighboring villages. The library facilitates a deeper understanding of their traditional syllabus.
